One of the most mysterious character in Elden Ring is Miquella.
The strongest Demigod Malenia said Miquella is the most fearsome Empyrean because he can manipulate others.
Here, a native Japanese explained the lore of Miquella, taking the Japanese backgrounds into consideration.
A Child of Marika and Radagon
The texts of Malenia‘s Great Rune and Remembrance of the Rot Goddess indicates Miquella is a child of Marika and Radagon.
Malenia’s Great Rune
And yet, due to the infusion of Malenia’s spirit of resistance. attacks made immediately after receiving damage will partially recover HP.
Malenia is daughter to Queen Marika and Radagon, and her Great Rune should have been the most sacred of all.
Remembrance of the Rot Goddess
Miquella and Malenia are both the children of a single god. As such they are both Empyreans, but suffered afflictions from birth. One was cursed with eternal childhood, and the other harbored rot within.
However, Marika and Radagon is the same person and it is still mysterious how Miquella was born.
In addition, Miquella and Malenia are twins, as Morgott said.
Morgott
Ahh… Godrick the Golden. The twin prodigies, Miquella and Malenia. General Radahn. Praetor Rykard. Lunar Princess Ranni.
Wilful traitors, all.
The Purpose Is to Establish Another Erdtree
Miquella’s purpose is to establish another Erdtree, as deacribed in the text of Radagon‘s Rings of Light.
Radagon’s Rings of Light
One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists.
A gift of gratitude to the young Miquella from his father,
Radagon.
Produces a golden ring of light and fires it across a wide area.
Charging enhances range.
And yet, the young Miquella abandoned fundamentalism, for it could do nothing to treat Malenia’s accursed rot. This was the beginning of unalloyed gold.
Because the fundamentalism was powerless against Malenia‘s rot, Miquella abandoned it and began to establish “unalloyed gold“.
But what is the “unalloyed gold“?
The text of Miquella’s needle indicates the word “unalloyed” means “warding away the meddling of outer gods“.
Miquella’s Needle
One of the unalloyed gold needles that Miquella crafted to ward away the meddling of outer gods.
Capable of subduing the flame of frenzy if inherited, allowing one to cheat fate and avoid becoming Lord of Frenzied Flame.
However, the needle is as yet unfinished and can only be used in the heart of the storm beyond time said to be found in Faram Azula.
So, “unalloyed gold” would represent something like a Golden Order excluding the meddling of outer gods.
Outer Gods
Now, what is the outer gods?
The texts below indicate there are some outer gods in the world of Elden Ring.
Blue Dancer Charm
The dancer in blue represents a fairy, who in legend bestowed a flowing sword upon a blind swordsman. Blade in hand, the swordsman sealed away an ancient god — a god that was Rot itself.
Scorpion’s Stinger
Dagger fashioned from a great scorpion’s tail, glistening with scarlet rot.
A ceremonial tool used by heretics, crafted from the relic of a sealed outer god.
Map (Lake of Rot)
Map of Lake of Rot and environs.
A great lake of standing water downstream of the Ainsel River. It is said that the divine essence of an outer god is sealed away in this land.
Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear
Trident of Mohg, Lord of Blood. A sacred spear that will come to symbolize his dynasty.
As well as serving as a weapon, it is an instrument of communion with an outer god who bestows power upon accursed blood.
Malenia was suffered from the rot deriving from an outer god, which made Mequella’s mind to remove away these influences of outer gods.
However, why the Miquella’s Needle can be activated in a storm beyond time.
I think storm beyond time is the cross point of world-lines, where outer gods would have little influence.
Saving the Low and the Meek
In addition, the text of Sacred Crown Helm implies that Miquella wanted to save the low and the meek.
Sacred Crown Helm
Worn by foot soldiers sworn to the Haligtree.
Who is it that Miquella shall bless, if not the low and the meek?
The low and the meek would refer to that not blessed by Erdtree, such as Malenia and Albinaurics.
So, Miquella have tried to become another Erdtree in order to bless them.
How dedicated Miquella is…
Manipulating Mohg
Miquella was unable to complete his Erdtree, as described in the text of Haligtree Knight Armor.
Haligtree Knight Armor
Its left breast is emblazoned with the crest of the Haligtree. Though watered with Miquella’s own blood since it was a sapling, the Haligtree ultimately failed to grow into an Erdtree.
It is the important point that blood is needed to establish an Erdtree.
In other words, Miquella’s blood should have lacked some necessary factors or quantity to complete the Erdtree.
So, Miquella would have come to manipulate Mohg, the Lord of Blood.
The text of Bewitching Branch and what Malenia said indicates Miquella can compel others, even gods, to love him.
Bewitching Branch
The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection.
Malenia’s Armor
Malenia awaited Miquella at the foot of the husk.
“My brother will keep his promise. He possesses the wisdom, the allure, of a god—he is the most fearsome Empyrean of all.”
Actually, Mohg loves Miquella and has been giving a blood transfusion to Miquella.
Remembrance of the Blood Lord
Wishing to raise Miquella to full godhood, Mohg wished to become his consort, taking the role of monarch. But no matter how much of his bloody bedchamber he tried to share, he received no response from the young Empyrean.
Mohg Absconded with Miquella?
Gideon said Mohg absconded with Miquella from the Haligtree.
Gideon
So. The Haligtree, now but a husk… I heard speculation Miquella embedded himself in the Haligtree,
but before he could finish, someone cut the tree open and absconded with his infant form.
Indeed, it seems those words held weight. How vexing. That the All-knowing didn’t have the full story…
Perhaps the Queen’s sorrow was justified… Ah, my apologies. Lost myself, for a moment there.
However, it is strange that Malenia did nothing but waited for Miquella at the foot of the Haligtree.
If Mohg had kidnapped Miquella, Malenia the Blade of Miquella should have tried to take him back.
In addition, the strngest-Demigod Marenia says Miquella is the most fearsome Empyrean of all, which suggests Miquella must be stronger than Mohg.
Therefore, Malenia would know Miquella have manipulated Mohg, so she did nothing but waited for Miquella.
Mohg’s Blood
The texts below suggest Mohg‘s blood is related with the outer gods.
Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear
Trident of Mohg, Lord of Blood. A sacred spear that will come to symbolize his dynasty.
As well as serving as a weapon, it is an instrument of communion with an outer god who bestows power upon accursed blood.
Bloodboon
The mother of truth craves wounds. When Mohg stood before her, deep underground, his accursed blood erupted with fire, and besotted with the defilement that he was born into.
An outer god is giving a power to Mohg’s blood.
The text “his accursed blood erupted with fire” suggests the outer god is related with fire.
Actually, we can see many emblems, that is also on the weapon Fire Giant had, at Mohgwyn Palace.
Besides, the texs below indicate fire is known to be effective to suppress the Malenia’s rot.
Redmane Fire Pot
Even today, the survivors of Radahn’s battalion employ fire to stave off the scarlet rot.
Radahn’s Great Rune
Radahn was amongst the children of Rennala and Radagon, who became demigod stepchildren after Radagon’s union with Queen Marika.
The Great Rune burns, to resist the encroachment of the scarlet rot.
So, Miquella might have planned to utilize the Mohg’s blood for curing the rot of Malenia.
However, Miquella semms in a terrible state….
Gideon said that the Miquella is sleping inside the cocoon.
Gideon
Well I wonder what comes next…
If he continues his slumber within the cocoon, all will be well.
But perhaps it would be safer to destroy it.
Miquella is the one thing that remains a mystery to me…
However, the Miquella’s arm outside the cocoon suggests he grew much larger.
It remains mesterious what happened to Miquella…
I expects this mystery would be revealed in DLC.
