Lore of Radahn Explained [Elden Ring]

Radan is one of the strongest Demigod and boss in Elden Ring.

You may have a lot of questions about Radahn.

Here, a native Japanese explained the lore of Radahn, taking the Japanese backgrounds into consideration.

A Child of Radagon and Rennala

Radahn is a child of Radagon and Rennala.

And, Ranni and Rykard are the siblings of Radahn.

Radagon and Rennala

These children of Radagon are Demigods, because Radagon is a god.

The text of Radahn’s Redmane Helm indicates Radahn respected Radagon, while a lot of people such as Marika, Rennala, and Ranni hated Radagon.

Radahn’s Redmane Helm
Radahn inherited the furious, flaming red hair of his father Radagon, and is fond of its heroic implications.
“I was born a champion’s cub. Now I am the Lord of the Battlefield’s lion.”

Radagon’s great power as a warrior would have attracted Radahn, who aspired to be a general.

User of Gravity Sorceries

Radahn can use gravity sorceries.

The text of Gravity Well indicates the master who taught Radahn the gravity sorceries was an Alabaster Lord.

Gravity Well
A gravitational technique studied by the young Radahn. His master was an Alabaster Lord with skin of stone.

In addition, one of the reasons Radahn learned the gravity sorceries was to reduce the burden on a beloved horse, as described in the text of Remembrance of the Starscourge.

Remembrance of the Starscourge
The Red Lion General wielded gravitational powers which he learned in Selia during his younger days. All so he would never have to abandon his beloved but scrawny steed.

How kind he is…

Certainly, Radahn seems too large to ride the horse without the gravitational technique.

Radahn crashed stars with his gravitational technique and came to be called “Starscourge Radahn”, which is described in the text of Starscourge Heirloom.

Starscourge Heirloom
The mightiest hero of the demigods confronted the falling stars alone—and thus did he crush them, his conquest sealing the very fate of the stars.

As a side note, these stars Radahn crashed would be that Lusat dropped, because players can see Lusat at Selia where Radahn crashed stars and Lusat can use the sorcery Stars of Ruin.

Stars of Ruin
Fires twelve dark shooting stars that pursue the target. This sorcery can be cast while in motion. Charging increases potency.
When Lusat glimpsed into the primeval current, he beheld the final moments of a great star cluster, and upon seeing it, he too was broken.

The text “the final moments of a great star cluster” would refer to the Radahn’s starscourge.

Sealing the Fate of Stars

The text of Starscourge Heirloom indicates Radahn’s starscourge sealed the fate of stars.

Starscourge Heirloom
The mightiest hero of the demigods confronted the falling stars alone—and thus did he crush them, his conquest sealing the very fate of the stars.

The text “his conquest sealing the very fate of the stars” would mean that the movement of stars stopped due to the Radahn’s starscourge.

This is because stars got to move again after the death of Radahn.

Here, what is the fate of the stars?

To conclude, the fate of the stars represents the life cycle via the movement of stars.

Ranni's order

This article is explaining the life cycle via stars.

The Sellen’s dialogue below implies stars contain the power of lives.

Our powers draw upon the powers embedded in glintstone, but what is the nature of such power?
Glintstone is the amber of the cosmos, golden amber contains the remnants of ancient life and houses its vitality, while glintstone contains residual life.
And thus, the vitality of the stars. It should not be forgotten that glintstone sorcery is the study of the stars and the life therin.

Therefore, the stop of stars movement by Radahn’s Starscourge resulted in the suspension of this life cycle, the sealing of fate of stars.

Malenia’s Rot Lost Radahn’s Sanity

As explained so far, Radahn was so strong enough to crash the stars.

However, he lost his sanity because of the Malenia’s scarlet rot.

The scarlet rot is so strong that it has rotted a large part of Lands Between.

The official movie shows Radahn received this dreadful rot at a very close distance in the Shattering.

Because of the Malenia‘s rot, Radahn lost his sanity and became a zombie that eats corpses like a dog.

Therefore, the reason players fight him is to get him out of this hell.
